November 3, 2017 Update...

Hi Parents,

Thank you for visiting today!  We have been working up a  storm this week in Room 315!  As the year moves on, our pace picks up a bit and it's more important  than  ever for you to make sure your child is staying on track and working to their full potential.  Please make sure to check and sign your child's agenda nightly so you know what the assignments  are that your child is responsible for. Students are earning (and losing) points for taking on this responsibility.  Some children are not too happy this week about their Class Dojo points because of this one area. It is ultimately your child's responsibility to bring you the agenda and  make sure you sign it.  Check out what else we've been focusing on this week...

Phonics/Grammar: We studied the spelling pattern of long vowel single syllable verbs that have the -ed and -ing ending.  We also reviewed identifying and using verbs in sentences.  Check out your child's quizzes that are coming home today and on Monday.

Reading: We continued our study of informational text and how to identify the main idea and supporting details.  We also began our new read aloud text, The One and Only Ivan.  We began identifying important character traits and supporting text evidence.  We completed several "close readings" on small parts of the chapter book to practice decoding unfamiliar words, which helps us understand the story better.

Writing:  We worked on the organizational structure of our informational chapter books.  After writing all of the information we knew about our topic, we then used highlighters to group our facts together by subheading.  We visited the media center to begin research on our topic as well.  After adding our new details to our work, we separated our facts based on subheading and worked on catchy headings for our book.

Math:  We continued our study of division strategies and looked closely at how to use the related multiplication facts to help us quickly solve equations.  Now memorization of multiplication facts is more important than ever! Please make sure your child is devoting enough time to this in the evenings!

Social Studies/Science: We completed our unit on Weathering and Erosion in science and discussed John Cabot's exploration in Social Studies.
