Hi Parents,
Thank you for visiting our blog today! I hope everyone enjoys winter break next week! Check out below to see what we've been doing in Room 315...
Grammar: We learned how to use commas correctly when writing. We discussed the many ways dialogue can be written and paid particular attention to the placement of the commas. We also learned where to use commas in addresses and in dates.
Reading: We read several chapters in The Magician's Elephant. We focused on identifying important symbolism in the story. We studied several characters and wrote a character analysis on each one. We also read in our book club books and worked in small groups to discuss the main characters and the problem in the story. We worked in small groups with our class novel to closely read and decode some of the more challenging parts of the story. Thank you, Mrs. Morling and Mrs. Olson, for leading small groups this week!
Math: We learned how to measure items to the nearest quarter inch and then plot our information into line plots. We reviewed double digit by single digit multiplication and how to correctly use the distributive property. We also worked on solving two step word problems. We reviewed using the ACE strategy (analyze, compute, explain) when solving word problems.
Content: We continued our study of the thirteen original colonies. We discussed the colonists hardships, accomplishments, reasons for coming to America, and resources available to them.
