January 25, 2019 Update...

Hi Parents!

We had a great week! Check out below to find out what we've been doing in each content area...

Grammar:  We learned about comparative and superlative adjectives and made a flip  book listing the rules.  We took the assessment on Friday.

Reading:  We continued our novel study on Because of Winn-Dixie.  We looked at text evidence to support character traits. We also looked at the motivations behind the characters' actions.  We worked in small groups to identify the theme  of our book club books. We also met with Mrs. W to practice oral reading fluency and strategies to decode more challenging words.

Math:  We learned about fractions this week.  We learned how to partition shapes and sets correctly, as well as how to identify the numerator and denominator. We worked on our Conceptua Math activities for more practice.  We also worked in small groups to create a "fraction  museum".  We practiced our multiplication facts (x2s) to get a feel for how the timed tests will go.  We made flashcards and learned a great way to memorize facts. We took our first assessment on Friday.

Science:  We continued our study of Animal Adaptations and began our posters.  We researched our animal to identify the physical traits as well as the behaviors that help it survive.  We also learned about Georgia's five regions and the characteristics of each region.  We read an article on each region and used the "boxes and bullets" strategy to increase our comprehension.

Class News...

Thank you to all those who have donated  items for our classroom.  We are still in need of lightbulbs (three-way and 60 watt) and pencil top erasers.

Remember that from now on, we will  be taking math facts quizzes on Fridays. Check your child's folder to see if he/she needs to continue studying that same set of facts or move on to the next set.

There is a great website below under "math facts" for  increasing speed of facts.  Encourage your child to check it out.
