Thank you for visiting today! We've had a great week. Check out below to find out what we've learned in each subject area...
Phonics/Grammar: We learned about irregular past tense verbs. We practiced using them correctly in our writing. We also continued to focus on application of standard conventions in our every day writing. Students should be consistently capitalizing sentences, using correct punctuation, capitalizing proper nouns, and punctuating dialogue correctly.
Reading: We began our chapter book, The One and Only Ivan. We began discussing the character traits and motivations of our main characters. We also went back to some of the more challenging vocabulary and used context clues to decode the words. We used text evidence to answer comprehension questions on the chapters we've read so far. We worked in small groups on passages to use explicit text evidence when answering questions. We finished up this round of book clubs and will be starting new groups next week.
Math: We continued practicing using the distributive property to solve double digit multiplication problems. We learned how to extend the strategy to help us solve more complex problems with three and four digit numbers. We looked at patterns of multiplying by tens, hundreds, thousands, etc to help us become more fluent when multiplying. We played several games to practice our single digit math fact fluency. We completed multi-step word problems every day and discussed the best strategy to use.
Social Studies/Science: We finished our unit on Erosion. We annotated several passages and answered comprehension questions. We moved on to learning about Paul Revere and his contribution to our country. We discussed importance of the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere's Midnight Ride.
Class News and Announcements...
Welcome Kyle Bergman and his family to our class! They are joining us from New York and we are so excited to get to know them.
Please make sure you are checking your child's agenda on a nightly basis. If there is no writing in it, they did not follow our morning procedures.
Our holiday party has been set for December 21st at 12:30. We'd love to have you join us. Mrs. Abrams is organizing the party. She will be in touch if you'd like to help.
Dinner Conversation Starters...
*Ask your child about Ivan's "domain"
*What strategy does your child prefer when solving double digit multiplication; area model or distributive property?
*What is your child's informational book about? Ask them what their chapters are...
