Hi Parents,
Thank you for visiting today! We ended our week with such a fun day! We finished up our novel, Because of Winn-Dixie and then watched the movie. Then we got our stores ready and had our Market Day. The kids had a blast and learned so much about supply and demand, good marketing practices, and managing a store. Read below to see what else we've done...
Phonics/Grammar: We practiced our long vowel spelling patterns in two syllable words. We also continued our review of adjectives and adverbs.
Writing: We learned how to organize a persuasive paper. We answered the question "Is a cat or a dog a better pet?". We wrote an introduction, at least two paragraphs stating our reasons, and then a closing. We focused on editing our grammar in a finished piece as well.
Reading: We read orally with a partner from Because of Winn-Dixie. We looked at the important secondary characters and how they impacted the main character. We studied the roles a secondary character can take on; Advisor, Challenger, and Sidekick. We worked in small groups on passages that help us use good strategies when answering tricky multiple choice questions.
Math: We learned how to calculate perimeter and we compared finding perimeter versus area. We also began preparing for the milestone by going over a problem a day in our Study Resource Guide.
Social Studies: We learned about Mary McLeod Bethune and her work on equality among African Americans in the late 1800's and early 1900's. We read a biography book and completed a four square listing memorable moments in her life.
