Hi Parents,
We only have 8 more days of school! With the end in sight, please make sure to double check our important dates and add them to your calendar. Here's what we've been doing this week...
Reading: We finished our last novel, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We reflected on the symbolism in the book and also how the main character and secondary characters changed. We listened to and discussed several more fairy tales and how the versions differ from the classic version we all know.
Writing: We wrote our speeches for the wax museum on Tuesday. We recorded our speeches and created QR codes for our poster. Don't forget to download a QR reader to your phone before Tuesday if you plan on attending the wax museum.
Math: We finished up our practice of addition and subtraction using the algorithm with numbers into the thousands. We worked on multi-step word problems that involve all four operations. We continued our boot camp, playing games and working with a partner to memorize those single digit multiplication facts. We took several timed tests this week, trying to beat our previous times. We also worked independently on a fourth grade math task to challenge ourselves.
Social Studies: We completed our historical figure posters, adding a timeline, a famous quote, and a map related to the events in our person's life.
Class News and Announcements...
We had fun at Field Day! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Lewald for being our coaches for the day!
We had a presenter from Wellstar Hospital today. She taught the students about summer water safety through a program called "Whale Tales". We will have a second presentation next week on bike safety called "Wheel Wise".
Tuesday is our Wax Museum! Please go directly to the media center at 9:00. Don't forget to download a QR reader onto your smart phone!
Wednesday is our class picnic! Meet at the pavilion at 5:30 for some food and fun! All are welcome to join in the fun.
Tuesday and Wednesday are early release days. Dismissal will begin two hours early. Please send any dismissal changes by note or call the front office. It will be hard for me to get to my email on those days and cannot guarantee I'll see a message from you.
If you want your child to continue practicing reading and math skills on a weekly basis, I tutor during the summer months. Let me know if you are interested. I meet students at the Kemp Library located on Due West Road. I can do individual sessions or small groups.
