May 4th Update...

I can't believe we only have 13 days of school left! How did this year slip by so fast?  Check out what we've accomplished this week...

Reading: We read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We illustrated the character's changes throughout the story and we also discussed the continued symbolism the author used to emphasize the theme of the story.  We read several fairy tales in order to study mentors for our writing unit on fractured fairy tales.  We also worked on reviewing using context clues to decode challenging vocab.  This is a skill that is vital to fourth grade success in reading.

Math:  We learned the traditional algorithm used when adding and subtracting numbers.  We also continued to practice decreasing our time on the timed math tests.  We began retesting on the Math Inventory. These scores will come home for signatures as soon as the entire class takes the test.

Social Studies: We made flip books on the branches of government and discussed the balance of power among the three branches.

Class News and Announcements...

Congratulations to Ashlen Allen for being chosen as Terrific Kid this month!  Way to go being a model student, Ashlen!

Please remember to sign and return your child's Reading Inventory Report if you haven't done so.  I want to make sure you are informed about your child's progress this year in reading.

Don't forget to check out the sign-up genius for Stem Day supplies. We are still in need of many items and will not be able to do this fun activity unless we get more in.
