Hi Parents,
Today was an exciting day! We went to a pep rally to kick off the new year at Kemp and I was surprised by the superintendent who told me that I had won District Teacher of the Year out of the three level winners. We had some county people in our classroom taking pictures and videoing, and the kids represented Kemp very well!
Below you will find information about our week. Don't forget to check out reminders at the end of the post!
Reading: This week, we learned what strong readers do in order to grow and improve. We talked about the habits that are important when reading and we worked on building stamina. We listened to the read aloud, Judy Moody Was in a Mood. We went to the computer lab and started our Reading Inventory. Results will come home as soon as everyone has finished the assessment.
Writing: We discussed how writing workshop will run in our room. We looked at the 2nd grade writing rubric to discuss what we should be consistently showing in our writing and then compared it to the third grade checklist to see what we are working towards. We learned several brainstorming techniques to help us with idea generation for narratives. We chose one idea to share with a writing buddy.
Math: We reviewed place value and learned how to round to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100. We worked on identifying the midpoint between two benchmark numbers. We learned how to play several games that emphasize number sense. We also logged into our Conceptua accounts and completed a guided assignment on rounding.
Social Studies: We learned about the seven habits of happy kids and talked about how to incorporate this into our school lives. We used these seven habits to make our class dojo behaviors.
News and Announcements...
Please send in a pair of earbuds or headphones with your child. I did not realize this was taken off the supply list and these will be needed for the computer lab and in class.
If you haven't done so, please return the CCSD Receipt of Information form.
Thank you Mrs. Partin, for volunteering to be our class room parent!
If your child is eager to begin memorizing his or her math facts, I've linked a great site below! Check it out!
