October 4, 2019

Hi Parents,

Thank you for visiting today!  This week has been so rewarding for me personally, to see the amazing growth of all of the students.  I am excited to share their progress with you next week.  Check out below to find out what we've been doing this week...

Reading: We began and finished our chapter book, Stone Fox by John Gardiner.  This story helped us to learn about character traits and character motivations, as well as summarizing chapters and using text evidence to accurately answer questions.  We worked individually and in small group to practice oral reading fluency.

Writing: We read the story, Crankenstein and used a story arc to plan out our own creative story version. We went through the process of brainstorming, writing a rough draft, and publishing.  You will see these stories at our conference!

Math:  We continued our study of division and how we can use what we know about multiplication to help us.  We also looked closely at how to determine the operation in multiplication and division word problems.  We took several quarter one assessments on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and word problems.

Social Studies:  We used several resources to learn about the three branches of government. We chose one branch to research further, and began our teaching posters. The students will finish the posters on Monday and we will begin sharing on Tuesday.

Class News and Announcements...

Happy Birthday to Colin McGraw!

The Handprint Unveiling Ceremony is Tuesday at 10:30 in the Marietta Square at The Strand Theater. Doors open at 10:00 and the event is open to the public, so you are more than welcome to join us! We will have a substitute teacher, Mrs. Mascheri, Mrs. Manson, and Mrs. Feldman with our class, so we will have lots of chaperones.

Our Tellus field trip is Friday!  Don't forget to put your child's lunch in a disposable sack if they are bringing one from home.  Also, comfy shoes are suggested. All are welcome to attend. Just meet us there around 10:00, pay your admission, and wait for our class.

Conference Week and Early Release begins October 14th. Make sure to plan accordingly if your child's dismissal will change.  Today will be the last day to choose your own conference time. After today, anyone who did not choose a time will be assigned one.

Report cards will be given out at your conference.
