April 13th Lesson Plans...

Lessons for the week of April 13th

Monday:

Grammar – Watch the video on Possessive Nouns here…

Explain to a family member what a singular possessive noun is and what a plural possessive noun is.  If you are unsure, watch the video again!

Reading – Work on finishing up your book club book. I want everyone done by this Friday. If you have finished your chapter book, I want you to read on Read Theory for your 30 minutes. Remember, our goal is not to rush through, but to understand what we are reading!  I want to see 100% on each quiz you take. I’ll be checking reports tonight for those of you who are doing Read Theory.

Math – EVERYONE needs to work on the Zearn lessons for 30 minutes today.  We need to get through these geometry lessons this week. I will be assigning a new topic next week.

Science – Watch this awesome video about the solar system…

Write a paragraph (8-10 sentences!!!!) about the solar system.  Take your time on this and do your best work, even if you take several days to complete this. Add some pictures to your paragraph if you want to. *Submit in Office 365

One night this week, go look up into the night sky. What do you see?  Can you relate anything from the video to the night sky?

Tuesday:

Grammar – Watch the video on possessive nouns here…

Make a four square like the one in the video that started with a picture of Emma’s book, but make up your own pictures. Remember, you must have the possessive noun in the picture (like Emma) and the noun of the item that is owned (like the book).  Write the possessive noun and the owned noun below each picture.  Have a parent or older sibling check your work.

Reading – Read the article “Tiger Gets Corona Virus” (I sent this in an email to your parents).  Take notes (stop and jot) then answer the questions.  Read your book club book if you are not finished with it.

Math – Zearn for 30 minutes!

Science – Watch the video on the solar system at…

Continue to work on your paragraph from yesterday if you are not finished. If you are done and have submitted it to me, then enjoy the video!

Wednesday:

Grammar – Think about what you’ve learned about possessive nouns this week.  Write a sentence using each word.  Remember to ask yourself if the possessive noun is singular or plural.
1. children’s    2. dogs’    3. monster’s   4. Mrs. Wadsworth’s    5. kitten’s
*Submit in Office 365

Reading –  Today, we are going to begin our unit on fractured fairy tales. A fractured fairy tale is when the author takes the traditional version of a familiar story and changes certain parts of it.  Other parts stay the same so the reader knows what the original story is.  Listen to the traditional version of The Three Little Pigs here…

Then watch the “fractured fairy tale” here…

Make a T-chart on a piece of paper. On the first side, write down five things that stayed the same in both versions of the story. On the second side, write down five things that changed in the fractured fairy tale version.

Math:  Zearn 30 minutes

Thursday:

Reading – Think about the classic version of the Three Little Pigs you watched yesterday.  Now listen to this version of the same fairy tale here…

Think about what was different in this version.  Who is telling the story?  Think about the Wolf’s feelings and motivations. Why did he eat the first two pigs?  Write a retelling of this story and send it to me in Office 365. Make sure your paragraph contains detailed sentences, is in sequential order from beginning to end, includes some dialogue, and contains correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. *Submit in Office 365

Math – Zearn 30 minutes

Friday – Catch Up Day! Use this day to work on anything you didn’t finish up.  Submit all work by the end of today.  You should have turned in your five possessive noun sentences, a paragraph on the solar system, and your paragraph retelling The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.
