October 21st Update...

Thank you for visiting today.  We managed to pack in so much good learning this week, even though  we had shortened days.  Check out below to see what we've done....

Grammar: We focused on what makes one complete sentence; a subject and a predicate. We talked about correct capitalization and punctuation and practiced writing with some fun photo prompts
In Spelling, we learned that the word parts in compound words can help us determine the meaning. We played several challenging rounds of SPARKLE.  Congrats to Ella and Nadia for winning today!

Writing/Reading:  This week, we combined  our reading and writing lessons by learning how to write to a narrative prompt. We read a passage called "Trapped" and then wrote an alternate ending. Later in the week, we read two passages "Adam and Ben" and "The Grasshopper and the Ant".  We wrote a letter to the one of the characters from the point of view of the other character.  We focused on including such things as dialogue, character traits, and specific evidence from the stories.  This work will be coming home next week.

Math:  We learned about AREA. We discussed the formula, related the formula to repeated addition, and learned how to calculate the length of a side when only given one side and the square footage of the shape.  We continued practicing our mental math strategies when solving multiplication problems. We worked in small groups, targeting specific student needs.

Class News...

Thank you Mrs. Abrams for helping our class with the pumpkin decorating contest. Come by and check it out! Our theme was "Lemonade War"!

Please encourage your child to leave toys, knick-knacks, distracting jewelry, etc. at home. There have been too many instances of kids being distracted with these items during instructional time. If your child gets these items taken away, you will be asked to come up to school to get them.

We will begin The  One and Only Ivan soon. Please purchase this book for your child if  you haven't done so already. I only have my one teacher copy.
