January 20th Update...

It was very good to have ALMOST a full week of school!  We got so much done this week.  Check out below to see what we learned about...

Phonics/Grammar:  We learned how to edit paragraphs and then rewrite them correctly (review of all conventions we are responsible for to this point).  We also learned the spelling pattern for two syllable words with long and short vowels.  We practiced chunking and spelling longer three and four syllable words.

Reading: We read two stories written by Patricia Polacco and compared and contrasted them.  We focused this week's comparisons on theme of  the stories.  We got our new book club selections and read three chapters with our partners. We responded in our reading journals and wrote about the characters and the setting.  We also completed several passages and questions that focused on finding supporting evidence.

Writing:  We reviewed components of informational writing and wrote about each of our five habitats in Georgia.  We added non-fiction text features such as maps, graphs, pictures with captions, and labels on pictures.

Math:  We continued our unit  on fractions, focusing on writing fractions.  Next week, we'll move to comparing and ordering fractions.

Science:  We finished up learning about our final two habitats and we made a map of Georgia habitats.

Social Studies:  We focused on the executive branch of the national government and the duties and responsibilities of the President. We read several passages about the presidency and Donald Trump. We watched the inauguration in the class during our lunch today.

Class News and Announcements...

Field Trip forms were due today! If you haven't turned it in, please do so Monday.

We are only allowed one chaperone to our One and Only Ivan performance,  which will be Mrs. Bergman.  All others are welcome to meet us there at  the Synchronicity Theater.

Our next chapter book that we'll be reading is Because of Winn Dixie. Please purchase your child a copy if you haven't done so. I don't have any extra copies of this book.
