Hi Parents!
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful snow! I know I did, until day 3 of no power! We are going to have a very busy week, working to catch up from our two days off. Don't forget about Market Day next Tuesday! Your child needs to be preparing more than just the goods or items he/she will be selling. Each child needs a "store front" with important consumer information (students will set up shop on their desks). Please refer to the flyer for more detailed information. Check out below to find out what we did last week, as well as some important reminders for the remainder of the year!
Phonics/Grammar: We learned how prefixes affect the meaning of the root word. We also reviewed the important parts of a letter and how to apply correct conventions when writing a letter. We took our spelling and dictation sentence quiz on Friday.
Reading: We finished up our read aloud, The One and Only Ivan. We talked about "theme" and using text evidence to support our opinion. We practiced writing constructed responses and extended responses to prepare for the Milestones.
Writing: We completed our informational chapter books, and they are AMAZING! We put on the finishing touches; writing a dedication page, table of contents page, and "All About the Author" page. You will be getting these books home with a scored rubric just after the holidays.
Math: We learned how to use what we know about multiplication and division to solve unknown side lengths of rectilinear shapes when given the other side length and the area. We also extended our learning by finding the area of more complex shapes. We took several chapter assessments and completed our Touchstones (the county assessment).
Class News and Announcements...
Make sure your child is prepared for Market Day!
Our class party is Monday. Please make sure your child has turned in a wrapped paperback chapter book with his/her name on the outside for our book swap that we will be doing that day. Mrs. Newlin is planning the party and she would love any help she can get! All are welcome to attend our holiday party. We will begin around 11:00, right after we get back from specials.
We have Early Release next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure to plan for any transportation changes.
Our Tellus Field Trip is this Thursday. We will leave Kemp around 9:00 and won't return until the end of the day. All are welcome to join us on the trip. You can pay for your ticket at the door.
Please send all lunches on Thursday in disposable bags.
The flu has hit our room, unfortunately. We've had several cases of it and need to make sure to follow the CCSD guidelines regarding illness. Make sure your child has been fever-free WITHOUT the use of a fever-reducer for a full 24 hours before sending him/her back to school. Also, follow the 24 hour rule for vomiting. Hopefully, we can keep the number of sick students down to a minimum.
