April 12, 2019 Update...

Hi Parents,

Can you believe we only have five weeks of school left?  We will be busy in April with testing, and then May is packed full of activities.  Please make note of our calendar items and add them to your schedule.  Here is what we've been doing this week...

Phonics/Grammar:  We added several pages to our Grammar Review Book on prefixes, suffixes, and types of sentences. This book will be coming home on Friday or Monday and will be a great resource for the kids to look over each night before testing next week.  English/Language Arts testing days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Reading:  We are reading our chapter book, Horns and Wrinkles, and working on vocabulary development with close readings.  We have also been comparing and contrasting two texts for our Milestones preparation.  We reviewed the UNWRAP strategy to help answer tricky multiple choice questions.  (Underline the title, Number the paragraphs, Walk through the questions, Read the passage, Answer the questions, after you Prove your answers)

Writing: We wrote an informational extended response comparing two passages.  We looked closely at the Writer's Checklist that will be available for reference on the Milestones.  This checklist is your child's ticket to a 4 on the writing section!  It bullets all the requirements for third grade writing.

Math:  We finished up Volume and Capacity, learning about liters/milliliters and grams/kilograms.  I also had the students list areas in math that they feel they need a review before the test. We have been focusing on the more challenging concepts of fractions on a number line greater than 1, multi-digit division and multiplication, and comparing fractions.

News and Announcements...

Testing Days: April 16, 17, 18 and April 24 and 25.

Kemp Camp and Read, formerly known as Book Swap, will be on May 10th. Please send in any chapter books your child is done with and would like to swap for books.  Your child will be able to choose up to three books, but please feel free to donate as many as you would like!

We will be celebrating the end of testing with a special pizza party and grade level celebration on April 26th in the afternoon. We are calling this day DIFFENDOOFER DAY after a book about testing.

Congratulations to Hannah Smith for making it to our Wall of FAME!  She's an amazing example to her  peers and I am so proud of her!
